Spectra studies of two new Schiff-base compounds and their complexes with Cu (II)
Schiff bases (azomethines) are well-studied structures, and their synthesis from an amine and an aldehyde or ketone is reasonably straightforward. Because of their Pharmaceutical uses, they have become important compounds. Aim of study: synthesis new Schiff bases and their complexes and evaluated their spectra. The ligands were prepared from schiff bases by condensation method derived from the drug amine (methyl 4-amino benzoate) with the aldehydes (2-hydroxybenzyldehyde) LS1 and (4,2-dihydroxybenzyldehyde) LS2. The ligands were characterized by FT-IR, Ultraviolet visible, Mass spectra, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR, Their acidic and basic properties were studied, and ionization constants were calculated with a range of acid functions of different pH (6-12). copper (II) complexes were prepared with ligands (LS1 and LS2), respectively. The composition of these complexes was proposed based on the different methods for their Ligands. Diagnostic procedures for Schiff base ligands and their produced complexes validated the hypothesized structures.
